Innovation Technique Conclusions and points for discussion - The 'rules' of Innovation Technique as specified on the method page could be described as 'reductionism' in that the performer reduces the amount of devices (melodic, rhythmic, harmonic or otherwise) used in performance/composition. This process of reduction may initially feel limiting to the improviser; however, once freed of the finite number of devices in the performer's repertoire, might it be that an infinite amount of possibilities becomes available? Through reduction one's options become greater.
- Undoing what you know and what you have been taught
- Less is more
- Not knowing where it goes next
- Act before you think
- Risk, bravery, surprise, mystery, uniqueness, novelty
- Exciting; adventurous
- New
- Freedom
- Is it actually possible to do this?
